Divorce care is a national program that creates classes taught by local groups.  I spoke with a woman form Life Church who runs classes on Wednesday nights all year round.  The classes last for 12 weeks, but many people choose to continue to attend for additional support.  There are no fees associated with the courses.

Website:  http://www.familysupportcenter.org/

The family support center provides several services that are extremely beneficial to parents and children in divorce situations.  They are probably best known for their “crisis nurseries.”  This service allows a parent to drop the children off, at no cost to the parent, for two or three hours for various reasons.  If the parent is simply too stressed to continue or if they have a court appearance etc.  The group also provides individual therapy for parents and children as well as mental health counseling.  They are not,  however, authorized to prescribe medication.  The counseling services may have fees that apply.  They are also specialized in working with children referred to them by the State or other organization who have been victimized by sexual abuse, for which no fee is charged.

Jordan Family Education Center

Address: West Jordan Elementary School; 7220 South 2370 West

Phone: 801-565-7442

Website:

The Jordan Family Education Center offers several courses that are aimed at helping individuals and families cope with divorce.  The two most relevant courses are: 1) Moving on; a course that focuses on empowering individuals to move on from difficult relationships; 2) Caught in the Crossfire; a course which focuses on helping the children in a divorce to cope.  These two courses are usually taught in conjunction with each other and last for 6 weeks.  Due to the recent change in school districts, the classes are not offered as frequently, and so it is good to call before or visit the website to determine when the classes will be taking place.  They also offer a class called Positive Parenting for Single Parents, which is somewhat related and gives valuable guidance to single parents in raising their children.  This is also a 6 week course.  All of these courses are free of charge.
