Can I choose what high school to go as a 16 year old without my parents’ consent?
Question: Can I choose what high school to go as a 16 year old without my parents’ consent?
Answer: In the state of Utah, where I practice law, a 16 year old child cannot choose what high school he or she wishes to attend without his or her parents’ consent. The only way around this, would be to sue your own parents to claim that their choice of high school for you is somehow deleterious and dangerous, or you would go to court and try get yourself legally emancipated, so you would no longer be subject to your parents’ control.
